USB organization

I've often read a good motto for keeping things organized at home --"a place for everything and everything in its place."

One thing that never really had a good place in our house was all of the chargers and USB cords for our electronics. I have a few wall-to-USB adapters, and theoretically all I'd have to do is find an appropriate USB cord and I could charge anything.

In reality, it never was that simple. My nook requires both its cord and its specific USB to wall adapter. Some of the older wall-to-USB adapters don't work with the iPad or some of the iPod touches. My cell phone can use any mini-USB adapter (except the one for the nook that looks very similar).

A week or so ago, one of my Facebook friends posted a picture of the wall outlets that her husband installed in their new house. It had a wall outlet and then two USB outlets. It looked like a perfect idea so I headed off to Home Depot to get some for myself. They were out-of-stock.

The next day I found an even better solution at Wal-Mart. It wasn't an outlet to install, but rather just an adapter that needed to be plugged in. (It was cheaper than buying a new wall outlet, too.)

Now I have a designated spot to charge all of my electronics. I still have to find the correct cords, but these USB plugs work for everything I want to charge.

A place for something, and something in its place. Now my big challenge will be keeping this area of the kitchen from turning into a "stuff magnet" and attracting all sorts of other stuff that doesn't have a home.

I'm writing about my new USB outlets as my U entry in "Blogging Through the Alphabet." You are invited to come see what other blogging friends are talking about this week or join along with us as we finish the last few letters.
