The World's Best Pencil Sharpener {Review}

A few weeks ago I saw someone post on Facebook about how they had found the "World's Best Pencil Sharpener."

I was skeptical and offered to do a review so that I could test that claim.

You see, I know where the world's best pencil sharpener is -- it's fastened to my dad's workbench at my parents' house in Georgia. I've missed that pencil sharpener for years.

I've bought pencil sharpeners that mangle and destroy pencils more often than they sharpen them. I've had electric pencil sharpeners that are so loud we'd disturb everyone else in the house when we used it. None of them ever worked as well as the one my mom brought home when she was a teacher in the 1970s.

I don't think I have unrealistic expectations. I just want a pencil sharpener to . . . wait for it . . . sharpen pencils.

My new pencil sharpener from Classroom Friendly Supplies truly is the "world's best pencil sharpener." It sharpens pencils. Every single time. And they all have nice sharp points.

I love the way that the pencils always come out sharp. I can't stand writing with a dull pencil tip, and I'm thrilled with having sharp points on all the pencils in our house. I no longer have to search through the house for a pencil with a decent tip or a mechanical pencil that hasn't run out of lead.

My kids love using our "Mickey Mouse" pencil sharpener so much that I've now fastened it down to a shelf in our schoolroom. I was a bit afraid it would get lost in someone's room when I wasn't looking.

It might seem odd that I'd get this excited about a pencil sharpener. Sometimes it's a big deal to find something that works as well as advertised.

This pencil sharpener is far better than I expected. In a side-by-side comparison, I think it might even beat the Old Faithful pencil sharpener that's been sharpening pencils at my parents' house for as long as I can remember.

The pencil sharpener from Classroom Friendly Supplies can be ordered for $24.99, with discounts for ordering in larger quantities. In addition to the Firehouse Red one we love, it also comes in Groovy Green, Cool Blue, Precious Pink, and Midnight Black.

Disclaimer: I received an awesome pencil sharpener for the purposes of writing this review, and I received no other compensation. In return, I agreed to give an honest review of the product and how it worked for our homeschool family. I am disclosing this in accordance with FTC regulations.

  1. Thank you for posting this. I also have that weird idea that a pencil sharpener should SHARPEN pencils, not eat them up and spit out bits of the pencil. I've been thinking it was our pencils.

  2. Wow the teacher discount on a pack of three is pretty awesome! Maybe this is what my kiddos teachers need as a welcome back to school gift next year. And then one for the house. I get frustrated with the sharpeners that sharpen but weaken the wood so the tip snaps off with the first writing.

  3. I agree with both of you. My other pet peeve -- the sharpeners that are off centered and leave a little sliver of wood sticking up alongside the point. This one doesn't do any of those things.
