34 Weeks of Clean -- A Hall Closet

When Michele announced last week's Hall Closet assignment for our 34 week of clean challenge, I did a little happy dance. We don't have a hall closet in this house. I do however have another closet that tends to be a bit of a disaster. I actually cleaned it out a few weeks ago during our "catch-up" week because it was bothering me so much.

Our laundry room has a closet where I store some of our linens. Unfortunately, I tend to store much more than just extra linens in there. It also stores extra medicines, our first aid kit, lightbulbs, Lauren's formula and feeding tube supplies, the gallon-sized refill bottle of hand sanitizer, and a bunch more. It's pretty much a junk drawer on steroids.

I sorted through a lot of medicines, both over-the-counter and prescriptions, so that I could dispose of everything that was either expired or no longer useful. It turned out to be quite a huge pile.

I doubled checked our first aid kit (in the black tool box) and made sure it was still fully stocked. Other supplies and medicines were put back neatly either in a bin or on the shelf. I'm so happy to be able to easily find everything. It's not just a matter of being able to quickly located something I need; it's also a matter of being able to see all of Lauren's extra prescription medicines so that I can tell when we need to order more.

All of the extra syringes we use for Lauren's medicines or feeding tube are now sorted by size and stored in small tote bags. No more digging through jumbled piles to find the correct size.

Finally, I refolded the linens and put them away neatly. The spare towels are closer to the bottom where everyone can reach them, and the sheets and blankets we rarely use found a home at the top of the closet.

As is often the case, my decision to clean out this closet came at the perfect time. This week's assignment is to clean up (or clean out) the laundry room. My laundry room is rather small, but I've packed a lot in there. I definitely have my work cut out for me.

If you'd like to join me with the challenges, you can find Michele's posts on her Family, Faith, and Fridays blog, on the Facebook page, or by clicking the button below. She posts a new challenge every Friday and will also be hosting a weekly link-up for any other bloggers who are brave enough to share pictures of their progress. There is also a prize basket giveaway with entries earned by blogging or posting pictures on her blog's FB wall.

  2. Your junk closet looks so nice and usable. I'm so glad you had a chance to straighten it up and get rid of all the things that were expired or no longer needed.
